How to Download Fonts to Silhouette
If you own a Silhouette Cameo, Portrait, Curio or other machine you can use it to create custom designs. To design something unique, you need a unique font. Installing fonts to your machine is a fairly easy process and more than worth the effort.
Local Fonts
Local fonts are fonts that are existing on your computer. To use them in your Silhouette machine, you simply need to download the font to your computer, open the Silhouette Software, select your text tool and type in the box. Your local font will then appear in the fonts drop-down menu.
Online Fonts
You can also download fonts online and install them to your Silhouette machine. You will need to purchase the font before you can download and install it. Be sure to check the digital format you are purchasing because some fonts are not compatible with silhouette machines.
Downloading the Font
Depending on where you are purchasing the font, there may be a different download instructions. Generally, you will open the ZIP file, select the OTF or TTF font files and either right-click and choose ‘Extract’ or drag the files to a new folder on your desktop.
Install Your Font
Once you’ve extracted the files, open your Silhouette software and select the ‘library’ tab. Select the following ‘file’ drop-down menu and click on ‘install font’. A new window will appear, and you can navigate to the folder where your font files are stored. Select the font files and click open.
Using Your Fonts
Once the font is installed, select your text tool and the font you have just install will appear in the fonts dropdown menu, ready for you to use in your designs.
Things to Remember:
- Check digital format of font before purchasing – Some font types are not compatible with Silhouette machines.
- Extract files – Be sure to extract your files from the zip file before you install them.
- Install Fonts – Select ‘File’ and ‘install font’ in the library.
